Hurtwood Theatre department’s trip to New York was non-stop action. Straight from the plane, bags dropped at the Paramount Hotel, everyone headed to Ellen’s Stardust Diner for a full-on singalong supper - subtlety was never the plan! Throughout the trip there was a myriad of fabulous opportunities for the students. On the first day there were workshops at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, New York Vocal Coaching and Broadway Dance. The afternoon saw a visit to the Museum of Musical Theatre and the opportunity to take in the breathtaking views from the Edge skyscraper. As darkness fell the night ended with dinner and electric live entertainment at Café Wha.
Day two kept the energy high starting off with a cycling tour around Central Park, before heading downtown to Pearl Studios for singing and dance workshops. The evening trip to the theatre to see ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ was a highlight for many. Day three brought dance workshops at Alvin Ailey, monologue sessions and stage combat masterclasses at Stella Adler, topped off with a night at the theatre to see ‘The Book of Mormon’. There was more time for sightseeing too with a stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge, a mooch along Fifth Avenue and a fabulous brunch at Lips—a fitting end to the trip with great food, big laughs, and even bigger memories.
