Watch ex-Hurtwood student Joshua Sasse as Oswald Mosley in ‘Outrageous’ the new series on the lives of the famous Mitford sisters. Based on Mary S Lovell’s 2001 best-selling biography of the six sisters, critics have highlighted the show’s modern relevance, citing the Mitfords as the Kardashians of their generation. The Radio Times describes the series as ‘Scandalous’ and ‘Stylish’ stating ‘Sarah Williams’s six-part drama could easily be mistaken for a work of fiction, and understandably so. But beneath the fun, fashion and froth is the true and tragic tale of the Mitford sisters.’ Joshua’s portrayal of Mosley as the chilling fascist attraction at the core of Diana’s life is superb.
‘Outrageous’ follows the aristocratic Mitford family, while zooming in on the diverging paths of Nancy, Pamela, Diana, Unity, Jessica and Deborah – the six sisters who would soar to notoriety and become a major source of public fascination in the 1930s. The story begins in 1931 which as the New Statesman writes ‘For the family, it’s a time of relative innocence. Diana, married to the filthy rich Bryan Guinness, has yet to run off with Oswald Mosley, the leader of the British Union of Fascists, and Unity has yet to develop her horrifying crush on Hitler. Pressing matters include the finances of their parents, aka Farve and Muv, which threaten their allowances and much is seen through the eyes of Deborah, the youngest, who sits on staircases at parties, nosy-parkering at the Champagne-fuelled glamour below. If you want houses and clothes and jewellery, your eyes won’t hurt at all.”
After Hurtwood, Joshua rose to fame playing Sir Gary Galavant in the hit series ‘Galavant’ and has many credits to his name including ‘No Tomorrow’, ‘Monarch’ and ‘Love Is in the Air’. At Hurtwood Joshua was rarely off the stage, but his wonderful performance as ‘Cy Rano’ in our musical adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac, will always be the most memorable.
Crack open the popcorn ready for this ‘must-watch for period drama fans! This '30s-set British drama is brilliantly seductive television - Outrageous will draw you in.’ (Digital Spy)
