Exploring Creativity in Cornwall: The Art Trip to St Ives

14/11/2025

Hurtwood’s Art, Photography and Textiles students spent three days over half term in the beautiful artistic community of St Ives, where they had the opportunity to work alongside professional artists, photographers and academics. In preparation for their art school applications, students took part in mark-making and assemblage workshops, photographic walks and art history lectures. The range of activities deepened their understanding of the way in which artists work and opened their eyes to new creative techniques and  possibilities.

During their stay our students also explored the world-famous Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Tate St Ives and a range of smaller commercial and artist-run galleries. They discovered first-hand why this coastal town has inspired generations of British artists. The students reported back that St Ives was a truly wonderful experience which had given them the chance to live and think like artists.
