TEACHER OF MUSIC TECHNOLOGY (p/t)

We are looking for a dynamic A Level teacher to join a well-established and well-resourced Music Technology department for three days a week from September 2026. With a 100% record of success in external examinations, it is a high achieving department looking to build on its success. The department has the full backing of the management and enjoys excellent resources and funding. The teaching team consists of two full-time members of staff, as well as peripatetic instrument teachers and visiting practitioners. The department follows the Edexcel Music Technology specification at A Level. This is examined through two written papers and a substantial coursework component.

At Hurtwood, A Level Music Technology is a dynamic combination of theory and production work, developing the students’ understanding through critical study and hands-on experience. By the end of the course students are expected to have a detailed knowledge of a wide range of music genres and artists, an understanding of the theory and practical application of production and composition techniques, together with a grounding in music theory. They will also have produced several of their own studio projects. Project work is undertaken in our four fully equipped studios together with a dedicated suite which acts as the main teaching room. The department is Mac based throughout with its own network and servers running Pro Tools and Logic platforms. Music Technology students make up the Sound Team for the various shows and concerts throughout the year as well as being an integral part of Project YouTube, which gives them the opportunity of working on large scale productions with industry professionals. Each year, the department produces the Hurtwood Album which showcases the breadth of musical and producing talent at Hurtwood. Creativity is the watchword, with students supported in all of their musical endeavours.
Hurtwood House is one of England’s most exciting and successful schools, specialising exclusively in the Sixth Form. We have an impressive academic record, a reputation for preparing students successfully for higher education and are renowned for the quality of our pastoral care. A culture of high expectations, creativity and professionalism permeates the school and we encourage students and staff to work in partnership to achieve the academic and personal outcomes that are important to us.
Hurtwood House has its own generous salary scale and benefits – our staff are welcome to join students in the first class dining facilities for three meals a day and there is a staff wellbeing programme, comprising in-school sessions and membership of the local leisure centre and its facilities. Many of our teachers develop their experience and range of skills by becoming involved in managing boarding house life for an additional allowance once they have worked at Hurtwood for a year or two. There is an Employee Assistance Programme in place for all staff and we are a member of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.

This role would particularly suit teachers who are looking to take the next step in their careers, who want to specialise in Sixth Form teaching and who value a collaborative approach to teaching and learning.

Closing Date: Friday 6 March 2026
(Interviews will take place in the week beginning 16 March 2026)
