The Hurtwood Foundation was established with two main objectives:
to provide bursary awards to enable specially gifted and talented students to take advantage of the outstanding education and the creative opportunities that the school provides, regardless of their financial means.
To help fund select capital projects on the School Development Programme.
Scholarships and Bursaries
Through the generosity of donors the school has established a permanent endowment fund and it is The Foundation’s aim that the income from this invested capital will provide a number of scholarships and bursaries for particularly able and deserving students for the two years of the A-level course.
Capital Projects
To maintain its position as one of England’s leading educational establishments and to further its reputation at the cutting edge of the Performing and Creative Arts the school has embarked on a comprehensive programme to develop and upgrade its facilities. Already over the last four years the school has invested more than £6 million on this programme and it is anticipated that a similar amount will be spent over the next five years in order to achieve our aims and objectives. Future plans include a “courtyard” classroom and leisure area to the rear of the school, a sports pavilion and a new Health Centre.
The Hurtwood Foundation and charitable status
Because Hurtwood House is run as an LLP (Limited Liability Partnership) and not a charity, the Hurtwood Foundation does not qualify for charitable status, which means that neither the donors nor the Foundation itself enjoy any of the tax benefits that charitable status would confer. Despite this, we have been very encouraged by the support already shown for this most worthwhile of enterprises – a testament to the loyalty and affection that past and present students and parents feel for Hurtwood, and the high regard in which this very worthwhile project is held
How will your contribution be recognised?
The Foundation is grateful for every donation it receives, no matter how large or how modest, because it is the accumulation of gifts of all sizes that will ultimately enable The Foundation to meet its targets. However, it is clear that in order to achieve the necessary funding The Foundation will be dependent on the generosity of leading benefactors. Recognition of such donors is clearly important and patrons may be interested in the “naming” opportunities which are available and which would provide a lasting link with the school. On the other hand, those who wish to remain anonymous may do so.
