Although it is not compulsory, sport does play an important part in Hurtwood life and there is a full programme of sports and other activities every afternoon, with a crowded fixture list of inter-school matches and tournaments.
It is clearly important to achieve the right balance between work and relaxation and Hurtwood provides a really wide range of other activities so that everybody can find something that they want to participate in. As well as football, rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, and basketball, typical afternoon activities include gym, climbing, mountain biking, aerobics, dance, audition preparation, golf, riding, polo, swimming, broadcasting from the school’s radio station, or advanced documentary film production in the Film Academy.
Hurtwood students also get out and about as often as possible, with visits to conferences and exhibitions; theatres, museums and galleries; sports tournaments; outdoor education weekends; and subject-related European excursions.
