The British Physics Olympiad

This is an annual event in which second year “A” level Physics students are invited to compete with their peers throughout the country to select a team to represent the U.K. in the International Physics Olympiad.  The venue this year is, rather unenviably, Mexico.
At Hurtwood our entrants were first year Physics students and so not eligible to represent the U.K. abroad.  However, we were able to gain one gold medal and three bronzes in the second round of the competition.  The high scoring students’ scripts were sent to Olympiad headquarters at Oxford, with prizes for those performing to the highest standard.

We were delighted to have Kenan Wang nominated for a prize as one of the top four AS students in the country and attended the presentation ceremony at the Royal Society in London.  We are looking forward to Kenan being able to take part again next year, when, with luck, he will be able to represent us in the final.  Hopefully the venue will be free of pandemics!

Congratulations to all who took part.  They were:-   Yuan Zhai, Alexander Sidukov, Pavel Matevosov, Jeffrey Zhang and Kenan Wang.

I don't really know where to begin when trying to thank you for the last two years - which has just been the best time of my life so far. I have taken more than anything I thought I could at Hurtwood, with all its INCREDIBLE opportunities. I will miss this amazing school so much - which is more like a home to me
