Autumn Term Fresher’s CabaretTo mark the start of the year we like to kick off with a big bang. On Friday 12th September we present the Musical Theatre Showcase from June – “Taking a Chance on Love” and invite each house to contribute a musical act. We finish the evening with a barbecue and disco. Visiting Theatre Companies During the term there will be two contrasting companies – a show direct from the Edinburgh Fringe and later Scene Productions with a Brecht play The Hurtwood Musical Recent years have seen a knockout adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac - ‘Cy Rano’ - in which we updated the text and set the action in 1960’s New York and Vietnam. Sixties Soul, Motown and Rock numbers supplied the music. “Summer Holiday” saw a full sized Routemaster on stage - and then there was last year’s runaway sell-out success of ‘We Will Rock You’, which really did rock everyone into Christmas. Several London agents attended and were impressed enough to offer to represent several of the actors. – Result! Our choice for 2008 is “Back to the 80’s” - a celebration of growing up in the era of Ninja Turtles, Rubik’s Cube and blue eyeshadow. The graduating class of William Ocean High School experience love, heartbreak and rivalries set to the hits of the time. Spring Term Students’ Own Work: Early in this part of the term there is an opportunity for students to show their own work either as directors or writers.
